Two hours from Geneva Airport, in the heart of Valais, facing the iconic Matterhorn and Mont Blanc, Crans-Montana offers all the ski traveler needs to have a great time on and off the mountain.
The ski slopes stretch from the high plateau up to the Plaine Morte Glacier at 3000 m with a total of 4900 ft vertical drop. Directly beyond the edge of the forest the pistes are broad and open, ideal for beginners and deep-snow skiers. Advanced skiers get their kicks on the challenging FIS ladies downhill slopes and on the several blacks tracks. Particularly popular are the broad carving pistes and the valley descent down the Piste Nationale which, at 12 km, is the longest in the region. Non skiers have their share of activities too: snowshoeing in the forests,ice-skating, curling, shopping along the Prado street or in the pedestrian center, wine tasting in the several cellars or just enchanting walks along the 6 frozen lakes of the resort. Crans and Montana are two towns – their centers a mile apart and their fringes merging. Crans is the more upmarket town, with fancy shops and a pedestrian friendly centre.Outings are possible to Saas Fee, Verbier, Zermatt, and Chamonix.
